Chargers Roar Past Deacons

WEST HAVEN, CT… The Deacons fell to 12-8 overall after dropping a non-conference game to the University of New Haven by the count of 92-73.  Tetrick Stonar led the Chargers with a career best 27 points and reserve guard Darryl Greene scored a career-high 23 as UNH improve to 7-8 overall on the season.

The 92-point effort was the most by UNH since the 2003-04 season, a span of 98 games.  UNH came into the contest only averaging 67.4 points a game this year. The Chargers attack was paced by 32 fast break points and 52 points in the paint. Sophomore forward Cassius Chaney narrowly missed a triple-double for the Chargers, falling just one assist shy while adding 13 points and 12 rebounds.  His nine assists were a career high.

 

The Deacons were led by a 21-point effort from freshmen guard Gage Daye.  Nnamdi Ahaneku posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Chris Sampson chipped in with 20 points and eight rebounds off the bench. The Chargers took command with a 47-32 halftime lead, and were up by as much as 21 in the opening period.  UNH lead by as much as 37 (84-47) with 9:31 remaining before BC closed out the game on a 26-8 run in the final minutes.

 

The Deacons return to action on Wednesday January 23, at 8 PM when they travel to Nyack College to take on the Warriors in a CACC North Division match-up.
